My work explores the tension between control and disintegration within figurative painting.
I primarily depict female figures in states of movement and transformation, where the form gradually dissolves into layers of paint. The surface itself plays an essential role: I continuously build it up and break it down again, allowing fragments, textures, and traces of the process to remain visible.
This process reflects an ongoing search for balance between strength and vulnerability, beauty and imperfection. The figures exist in an in-between space—never fully defined, yet never entirely abstract—inviting the viewer to complete the image in their own way.
Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, I aim to evoke a sense of instability and openness, where identity and form are constantly shifting.
Portraiture is one of my specialties, and creating commissioned portraits remains an important part of my practice.

Mijn werk onderzoekt de spanning tussen controle en desintegratie binnen het figuratieve schilderen.
Ik beeld voornamelijk vrouwelijke figuren af in beweging en transformatie, waarbij de vorm begint op te lossen in lagen verf. Het oppervlak speelt een essentiële rol: ik bouw het steeds op en breek het weer af, waardoor fragmenten, texturen en sporen zichtbaar blijven.
Dit proces weerspiegelt een onderliggende zoektocht naar balans tussen kracht en kwetsbaarheid, schoonheid en imperfectie. De figuren bevinden zich in een tussenruimte — niet volledig gedefinieerd, maar ook niet abstract — en nodigen de toeschouwer uit om het beeld te vervolledigen.
In plaats van een vaststaand verhaal te presenteren, wil ik een gevoel van instabiliteit en openheid oproepen, waarin identiteit en vorm voortdurend verschuiven.

Where in his image she seems to be sleeping, in my painting I see her as a silent witness to a drama unfolding around her. And yet she remains completely true to herself. Niet slapend uit zwakte, maar wakend in stilte.Dit is geen sprookje over redding.Dit is een oproep om je donkere tuin te omarmen.Want soms is de dapperste daad niet vechten…Maar liggen blijven, terwijl de wereld roept dat je op moet staan. In samenwerking met fotograaf Henk Veldhuizen gaf ik zijn prachtige foto van Sneeuwwitje een nieuwe betekenis. Waar hij in zijn beeld lijkt te slapen, zie ik haar in mijn schilderij als een stille getuige van een drama dat zich om haar heen voltrekt. En toch blijft zij volledig bij zichzelf. In this painting, I was inspired by the pose, the flow of the fabric, the colour mood and the dramatic elegance of Henk Veldhuizen’s photograph. Thank you for the inspiration!I have translated these elements into my own visual language and transformed them into a story about feminine energy in motion: powerful and soft at the same time. In dit schilderij heb ik me laten inspireren door de houding, de flow van de stof, de kleurstemming en de dramatische elegantie van de foto van Henk Veldhuizen. Dankjewel voor de inspiratie!
Ik heb deze elementen vertaald naar mijn eigen beeldtaal en omgevormd tot een verhaal over vrouwelijke energie in beweging: krachtig en zacht tegelijk. De vloeiende vormen en vlinders symboliseren het tastbare en niet-tastbare, het vluchtige en mysterieuze. Een moment tussen aanwezigheid en verdwijnen.
This new work, Indigi Tide created using poured metallic acrylic and finished with acrylic paint, 60 x 100 cm. was part of the exhibition at Galerie Bont en Blauw. (june 2026) and is now exhibited at Shell ETCA Amsterdam till november 2026.

Between Dream and Reality
In this work, I explore the boundary between dream and reality. The figure appears both present and elusive, as if moving between memory, silence, and imagination. The birds enhance this sense of movement and freedom — appearing only briefly, almost like thoughts that come and go.
Through loose brushstrokes and transparent layers, I try to make transience visible: nothing remains completely still, and forms dissolve into light, colour, and atmosphere. I search for the moment when an image is not only seen, but also felt.
The combination of soft shades of green, accents of light, and a dreamlike composition invites the viewer to step away from reality for a moment and drift into a world suspended between the present, memory, and imagination.

Between stillness and change.
The figure holds herself together while everything around her begins to shift — fragments, textures, and fleeting forms.
The butterflies reflect this quiet transformation: fragile, unstable, and never fixed.
I am searching for that in-between space, where control begins to loosen and something more vulnerable becomes visible.
